How to Prepare for a Remote Job Interview
How to Prepare for a Remote Job Interview Some job seekers may be under the mistaken impression that having a remote interview is easier that interviewing for a position in person. Nothing could be further from the truth. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, remote interviews are becoming more common as workers are hired to work from home in the millions. Because an individual being interviewed wants to make the best impression during a remote interview, a few tips can help. 1. Prep the Area for Your InterviewSetting up for your interview in a messy room with childrenââ¬â¢s toys or other personal items around can make you appear unprofessional. In addition, letting an interviewer see the way you live is giving out unnecessary information that does not pertain to the job. When you set up for your interview, look around at what the interviewer will be seeing in the background. Keep your background businesslike, clean and preferably neutral. If your desk will be showing, organize the top neatly and get rid of any clutter.2. Show Some EnthusiasmJust as in a regular interview, an individual who shows no enthusiasm for the company or position will not impress the recruiter. Those who act bored or restless during an interview are perceived as just going through the motions. In other words, employers want employees who are happy to work for them and will do their best at the job. Enthusiasm for the position gets the interviewee closer to getting hired.3. Dress the PartDress appropriately for your interview. The point is to blend in with the culture of the company, but you want to use caution to neither underdress nor overdress. Stay away from clothing with logos and splashy patterns because it is distracting, and the hiring manager want to concentrate on what you have to say and whether you are a good fit for the company and job. Choose your clothing to fit in with the company and look polished for the interview. Although you may be tempted to wear jeans with your dress shirt, jacket and tie, realize that t he entire ensemble can reflect your attitude, so donââ¬â¢t skip on the suit pants or skirt. If the company dress is more casual, go with that but make sure your clothing is in good condition, pressed and presentable. In addition, remember to get that haircut if needed and present yourself with a well-scrubbed and polished look.4. Do Your ResearchIt can be difficult to have a good interview for a company you know little about. Do your research, and learn about the company where you are applying for a job. Whether in a healthcare job, sales, desk job or another type of employment, check out the company background, major news and the person with whom you will be interviewing.5. Keep the Noise Level DownWhile you are being interviewed, keep the noise level in your home down. This may involve asking someone to watch your children at their home for a little while or taking the dog for a walk. Turn off the television and stereo. You donââ¬â¢t want anything that might distract either you or the interviewer from concentrating. Turn off your cell phone or house phone ringer until the interview is over.6. Donââ¬â¢t Show ArroganceThis is a big turn off with recruiters. Talk about what you accomplished for your previous employer, but be cautious about bragging. Mention how your expertise benefitted the company such as talking about how your sales contributed to the companyââ¬â¢s earnings, not about how you are the best salesperson in the business.Properly prepping for an interview, whether in person or remotely, is important to make that next step into a job successful. The way in which you find that job is also important. TheJobNetwork can help by doing the job search for you in any field such as sales jobs, medical receptionist jobs and in many other areas. Clean out of spondulicks!
Clean out of spondulicks! Clean out of spondulicks! Clean out of spondulicks! By Maeve Maddox While looking up something else, I came across the slang word spondulicks, meaning money. It has a U.S. origin, but I dont recall having ever noticed it before. Its in the OED: spondulicks: n. slang. orig. U.S. [Of fanciful formation.]à Money, cash. Also, a piece of money, a coin. 1857 in R. H. Thornton Amer. Gloss. (1912), He lost..All the brass and all the needful, All the spondulix and buttons. Spondulicks may derive from Greek spondylikos, vertebra, which derives from spondylos, a seashell once used as currency. Another spelling is spondulix. The word is still in use among speakers of British English in England, Australia, and elsewhere, but it has pretty much been forgotten in its land of origin. According to Michael Quinion at Worldwidewords, one of its earliest appearances was in a piece about college life in the New York magazine Vanity Fair in 1860, and it may have originated as college slang. The vertebra sense of spondylo may have something to do with the coinage of spondulicks in the sense of money. Blogger Doug Wilson found a reference to spondulics in an 1867 book, A Manual of the Art of Prose Composition for the Use of Colleges and Schools, by John Mitchell Bonnell. Included in a list of provincialisms was: ââ¬Å"Spondulics - coin piled for counting.â⬠Anyone who has ever played with a stack of coins will see its resemblance to the vertebrae in a bending backbone. Its easy to see how a humorous medical student might show off his learning by coming up with the word. spondylo comb. form of Latin spondyl-us, vertebra, occurring in a few modern terms, chiefly Path. in the sense ââ¬Ëof or pertaining to, connected with, the spineââ¬â¢, as spondylocace, -dynia, -pyosis, -tomy. spondylitis: n. On the other hand, a coin dealer who has named his business The Elusive Spondulix says the word spondulix entered the American vocabulary in 1800, thanks to an exhibit of African and West Indies Cowry-shell money at the Philadelphia Mint. Whatever its origins, the word is still being used. Analysing Of The Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Analysing Of The Paper - Essay Example I specifically like this statement which defines how business organizations should go about the extension: "Unless the Brand name is strategically able to brand its extension to their customers and is capable to achieve this goal through similarities then and only then the success is higher. A company should extend their products as long as it is appropriate and along the lines of their products and or services. But, if the company wishes to expand to a class and or category different or other than what they are in, then there is a higher chance of failure." Do you mean that different brands should be used in different sectors or categories Your discussion is very informative. Instead of focusing only in the advantages and disadvantages of brand extensions, you have made the leap through identifying the steps which should be considered by marketers. My question is, can you discuss more on distancing techniques How is it done Richard Branson's extreme personality should be credited for his venture in numerous unrelated product categories.

It's not only okay to cry Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words
It's not only okay to cry - Essay Example Accordingly, emotions, feeling and thought are response of nervous system at different level of processing and actuation. Of these, the emotions are processed and actuated at the lowest level and therefore, are most honest and crudest form of response. These persist for very small time period. If they persist for longer, they have more processing and actuation time and become feeling. If they persist for still longer, they are given sufficiently longer processing capabilities and become thought. Emotions are very important for development of our personality. They are indicative of the health of our nervous system. However, they are not so welcome in our professional life, where we need to appear as being controlled by our thought process, rather than emotions. However, sometimes, in professional life we need to pretend to have emotions suiting to the occasion for short period of time. Q2. Thinking process is a more mature process as against Emotional make up which is true and quick response. In thinking process, processing of information is done at the highest and most sophisticated level. All that we have learnt over the long evolutionary period helps in making up the thinking process. While emotions are what we retained from our reptilian stage of evolution, thinking is more of a mammalian character. Thinking process is more important to a manager as he is expected to work with his brain and not with heart. At the same time, he should not be seen heartless by his subordinates and therefore, he needs to shows appropriate emotions, even if false. Q3. At the workplace employees and managers are expected to behave under control of their brain and therefore, there is very little space for emotions. However, to maintain the atmosphere lively, expression of positive emotions are acceptable, like cheering some great positive news. There may be sad situations and sad emotions are also ok. Steroid Use in Pro Sports is Unethical Essay -- essays research papers
à à à à à à à à à à When you were a kid, didnââ¬â¢t you want to play a professional sport? What would you give to be one of the best athletes in the world? Would you risk your reputation? Your health? Would you be willing to die? Although many studies have come out saying that steroids diminish oneââ¬â¢s health, people still take them hoping to be the best. Imagine if you were a 28 year old who left college early because a pro team ââ¬Å"guaranteedâ⬠you that you would play in the big leagues. Yet you just got stuck in the minors, and the only way you could get to the bigââ¬â¢s was to take a pill that made you super-strong and super-fast. It would make sense to just take it. But what if that pill shrunk your testicles, hurt your heart and vascular system, and made your heart work 3 times harder than it is suppose to? An athlete would be pressured to take these pills, yet it would be smarter to say no. Why would athletes, of all people-risk harming their bodies? If I became a major league baseball player, and hit 65 homeruns, I couldnââ¬â¢t live with myself thinking that most of those wouldnââ¬â¢t have gone over that fence if I hadnââ¬â¢t taken steroids. I could never be proud of my stats or not be ashamed when a reporter told me how good I was and asked me how I learned to hit the ball that far. Although the benefits of steroids are good, the risks and side effects are too dangerous. Therefore athletes should not use steroids. Steroids have a surprisingly long and interesting history. Although steroids did not become popular until the late 1980ââ¬â¢s and early 1990ââ¬â¢s, they were around for a long time before that. In the 1930ââ¬â¢s, anabolic steroids were developed to treat anemia and other muscle-wasting diseases. But it was not until 1954 that anabolic steroids began to appear in athletic competition when Soviet weightlifters supposedly used them at the World Championships. In 1958, a doctor by the name of John Ziegler developed Dianabol; the first mass produced anabolic steroid, with the help of a Pharmaceutical company, and in 1960 distributed Dianabol to the U.S. weightlifting team. The IOC (International Olympic Committee) banned the use of anabolic steroids in 1974, just 7 years after it hired a medical commission to perform drug tests on athletes. Two years after the ban by the IOC, eight athletes were disqualified from the Montreal Olympics after testing positive for steroids. The NFL started ... ...y if every player uses them. Also when sports were invented it was made to be challenging. Baseball wasnââ¬â¢t invented for someone to go up to the plate and hit 2 of every 10 balls pitched to them over the fence. When a player hits a homerun it is supposed to be special. When golf courses need to be renovated from 500 yard Par 5ââ¬â¢s, to 650 yard Par 5ââ¬â¢s, because players are driving the ball 350 yards, it kind of defeats the purpose of the game. What is the point of watching it when the players are too good for the courses they play on. Are all sports going to become obsolete or boring to watch from the use of steroids? The answer is yes, if the use of steroids isnââ¬â¢t stopped. Bibliography Congress gets baseball to act on steroids www.comcast.net/news/sports Fredric J. Exposé of Hypocrisy of Imperialism in Conradââ¬â¢s Heart of Darkness Essay
In his novella Heart of Darkness, author Joseph Conrad attempts to expose the hypocrisy of imperialism since its explorers emphasize the importance of helping natives, while actively exploiting them. He also depicts the Africans in the story as nothing more than mindless savages. During his journey to the Congo, Conrad witnessed the horrors firsthand that the Europeans inflicted upon the African natives. He shares his experiences through Marlow, the protagonist, who sees the evil side of humanity through its materialism. Conrad denounces the oppressive nature of those of his time by exposing their social darwinist thought. Imperialism is portrayed as a hypocritical tool used purely for the Europeansââ¬â¢ own benefit. Europeans began what is known as ââ¬Å"the scramble for Africaâ⬠in the late 19th century. The major powers all fought each other to gain control, disregarding the Africans in the process. The Europeans believed themselves to be taking up ââ¬Å"the white manââ¬â¢s burdenâ⬠, which was the belief that the Europeans had a duty to gain control of Africa and civilize the inhabitants in order to help them. The hypocrisy of it was that what they deemed as helping and civilizing them was actually entirely against the nativesââ¬â¢ wishes, as their culture was being destroyed as well as their people enslaved. Conrad depicts this throughout his novel, Conrad denounces oppression by showing racism to criticize the immorality and cruelty of enslaving others for personal gain. Inhumane treatment of the africans is expressed through how they wore rags, which gives a sense of desolation. Racism is conveyed through the dehumanization of the natives, revealing that their captors went as far to put them in collars, showing they were seen as and treated like dogs. Even Marlow refers to his helmsman as a piece of machinery. Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, author of Things Fall Apart, famously criticized Heart of Darkness in his 1975 lecture An Image of Africa: Racism in Conradââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Heart of Darknessâ⬠, saying the novella de-humanized Africans, denied them language and culture and reduced them to a metaphorical extension of the dark and dangerous jungle into which the Europeans venture. All the European colonists desired was wealth and treasures, willing to go as far as completely exploit other human beings. The metaphor comparing colonists to burglars was used to convey that they had no morals and did whatever they please in order to achieve personal gain, including exploiting them. This is all very hypocritical considering they believed themselves to be helping and civilizing them. Conrad uses Mr. Kurtz to unveil how he feels about imperialism as a whole. Marlow describes how Mr. Kurtz says everything is his own, which shows that imperialists claimed Africa is theirs and it was okay to exploit the natives as slaves. Conrad uses the dehumanization of Kurtz to exemplify his beliefs to maintain oneââ¬â¢s morals to avoid becoming caught up in a world of materialistic desires. Mr. Kurtz is described as having a bald head similar to that of an ivory ball, leading the reader to believe that all he thinks about is ivory. The fact that he is withered is to show Conradââ¬â¢s belief of what greed will result in upon a person.
